Why does compression take the full video duration?＋
The browser plays, resizes and records the video frame by frame. This keeps processing local but makes it approximately real time.
Why does the output use WebM?＋
WebM can be encoded natively through MediaRecorder. Reliable local MP4 creation would require a much larger transcoding engine.
Will the compressed file always be smaller?＋
No. Lower settings usually reduce size, but a short or already optimized source may produce an equal or larger WebM file. The result panel shows the actual comparison.
What settings should I choose?＋
Start with Balanced. Choose Small file for messaging or slow connections, and High quality when preserving detail matters more than size.
